Anne-Sophie Berting
2002

I’m a bookbinder and graphic designer currently studying at ArtEZ University of the Arts. I’m particularly interested in book design, printed matter, archiving, bookbinding and have a deep passion for traditional crafts. I enjoy a collaborative creative process. My work is driven by a commitment to craftsmanship, with a keen eye for detail, colour combinations and clarity of design. Whether it’s crafting custom books, designing layouts, or preserving the beauty of traditional techniques, my goal is always to produce work that is both functional and visually compelling.

Gothic binding

DATE: June 2024
BINDING: Anne-Sophie Berting
PAPER: Munken Pure 120gsm
MATERIAL: leather, cotton, acrylic paint, flax
A Gothic Binding of the book Kneep & Binding. Made as an exam piece for my studies at VOHB under the guidance of Judith van Daal. The book is bound in half leather yellow goatskin from Harmatan and Oakridge. The signatures are coloured alternately using blue acrylic paint. The binding features double endpapers and leather headbands wrapped in linnen thread. All colours chosen to match the hand-marbled paper from Relma featured on the cover. On the spine the KB are stamped in silver foil to indicate the title of the book.
